• Breaking News Alerts On Your Phone

  • WHAT: Breaking business news sent to your phone
  • WHY: It's easier than constantly checking web sites
  • COST: FREE (cost of text message only)

txtmessage.gifStaying updated via the web is easy, fast and efficient... if you're near a computer.  You may not be parked at a desk all day, nor would you want to crank up a mobile phone's browser every time you wanted to see if there was something big going on in the world of business.  There's an easier way, though - just get the information "pushed" to you via a simple text message.  Many services provide this - some charge for it - but there's one available from one of the most established news services anywhere... Reuters.  It's free and promises to keep you informed.  Read on to see how it works.

Signing up for the service is simple.  Just send a text message from your cell phone to 25669 (2KNOW) and you'll receive a reply back in just a moment.  When you get it you'll be asked to verify that you actually do want to receive the alerts; this avoids other people's pranks (malicious or innocent, it won't matter if it's costing you text messages from your alloted amount).  When you reply back to the Reuters center by texting you'll then receive a greeting message via text with instructions on how to end the service if you ever choose to (just send "STOP" to the same 25669 address).

So, no need to be checking news sites all day - have Reuters automate the checking for you and receive an update with the details if something big breaks.

A few months ago I subscribed to a free text alert service where I receive info texts. The sender address comes up as 1111. I can't figure out how to modify/cancel the service and can't find the website. HELP!!!

Thank you,
Otilia

Hmmm... a mystery, indeed. I suggest that you try replying to one of the text messages you're receiving with the word "stop" - many times this will cause it to cease or, at the least, you will receive a message from the sender telling you how to get more help.

Let me know how it turns out - if that doesn't work I'll try to figure out something else.

Can you please be more specific? What do you mean by "message passing"? And simple steps to do what? Describe a process? Accomplish something?

I'm delighted to help people if I can on this forum but please try to describe what you want in as much detail as possible.

Thanks for visiting the site and I hope I can help you when you add some descriptive text to your comments.
